The Treasure Series | ENLIGHTENED

One of my favorite verses in the Bible is found in the book of Isaiah. In fact, there are lot of my favorite verses in Isaiah. This one is found in Isaiah 9. “The people walking in darkness have seen a great light; on those living in the land of darkness, a light has dawned.” After 400 years of silence, without a word from God through any prophet, John the Baptist breaks the silence with these words, “Repent, for the kingdom has come near.” Matthew, Mark and Luke all tell the story of the Son of God coming into the world in human form from His birth to His resurrection, telling stories of his teachings and his miracles —Of his gentle words to the sinner and his stern words to the “self-righteous”.

But John “the self professed disciple whom Jesus loves” starts his biography of Jesus before the creation of the world. His gospel begins …

In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was with God in the beginning. Through him all things were made. In him was life, and that life was the light of all mankind. The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it.

The true light that gives light to everyone was coming into the world.

After 400 years of silence and spiritual darkness, the Son of God, creator of the universe and light of the world came here looking for his own, and he found them, not in the synagogues, but in the streets—beggars, lame, blind, sick, prostitutes, thieves, and John tells us to all who received him, he gave the right to become children of God.

His light flooded the dark places in this world and lit up the darkness and to “all who received Him” (that includes us), He instilled the light. In his sermon upon the mount, he tells his disciples,

You are the light of the world!

Our third treasure is “ENLIGHTENED”. Not only have we been given the mind of Christ, not only have we been redeemed and reconciled to our God, we have been enlightened with this amazing unquenchable light that dispels the darkness. Yes, you and I are “the light of the world”. In Jesus’ own words,

In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven. Your earthen vessel is filled with a light that dispels the darkness that gives light that others may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven.

These treasures in our jars of clay are not just for us. They are given that we may bring glory to God. We are on assignment to point others to Jesus, bring glory to God and light up the world.

This is another amazing song that I hope will light a fire in your soul.
